Omaha Beach Normandy

Omaha and Utah were the code names given by General Bradley who, when the operations were being named asked  NCOs where they came from!

A 4 hour drive from Moêlan sur mer, 15 minutes from the Pointe du Hoc, it was a landing point for US soldiers, the other one was Utah Beach. Omaha Beach was known to be the most difficult miltary objective when the Normandy landing was being planned.2,400 soldiers died there.

On our second day in Normandy, we'll visit Omaha Beach. It was known to be the most difficult military objective when the invasion of Normandy was being planned .

First, the Normandy American cemetery and visitor center. It houses 9,386 graves of soldiers who fell during the battle of Normandy. Owned by the US government, it overlooks Omaha Beach.In June 1969,a time capsule was buried in front of the entrance to the site's administration building .It's dedicated to Eisenhower and will be opened in June 2044, on the 10th anniversary of the allies landing in Normandy.It contains papers announcing the landing.

Then, let's visit the Overlord Museum, close to Omaha beach and the American cemetery.We'll look at the striking outdoor exhibits, canons,tanks and Bailey bridge.

Inside, the Overlord museum has gathered many authentic equipment and original vehicles used by all nations. Civil and military scenes are reconstructed with breathrtaking realism and the soundtrackcomplete the immersion in the heart of history.
